RAP monthly payments by income
Wondering "how much would I pay?" These are actual RAP payments computed from the 2026 statutory formula — no rounding tricks, no sales pitch.
Monthly payment by AGI × dependents
Each figure is the monthly payment after the $50/dependent reduction, floored at $10. Rendered on the server from the same statutory formula as our calculator (34 CFR 685.209(b)(2) and (f)(5)).

Method: annual payment = the applicable percent of all AGI (or $120 at $10k or less), ÷ 12, − $50 × dependents, floored at $10. Formula per 34 CFR 685.209 / OBBBA §80503. Check: AGI $60,000 with 0 dependents is $250.00; $100,000 is $750.00; $120,000 is $1,000.00.
Your exact number, including loan interest and IBR: use the RAP vs IBR calculator → It adds your loan balance, interest rate, and family size, and shows which is lower this month and which costs less in total.
What these numbers tell you
- RAP is gentle at the bottom, heavy at the top. At $10k you're on the $10 floor; over $100k the 10% band applies to all of AGI.
- Dependents matter. Each one shaves $50/month off your bill — four dependents can cancel most of the payment at mid incomes (still never below $10).
- No $0 payments. Unlike IBR, RAP always costs at least $10/month, even at $0 income.
- For low incomes, IBR can be cheaper (or $0) — but RAP waives interest and matches principal when an on-time payment reduces principal by less than $50. Which is lower this month, and which costs less in total, depends on your family size: see the calculator.
